The Makah Cultual and Research Center has a couple of different opportunities for you to contribute. We have an Endowment Campaign and a Membership Department.
Currently, the MCRC operates on money received from competitive federal and state grants and contracts. We are also funded by corporate and private foundations. We generate money from admission to the museum and from Makah Museum Store sales. The Makah Tribal Council provides about 4% of our total operating budget.
We are accountable: We undergo a federal audit every year and have received no major findings since our extablishment in 1979. We are governed by a 12 member Board of Trustees who are all members of the Makah Tribe which include various families.
You have the opportunity to make a restricted donation or an unrestricted donation. A restricted donation allows you to determine how your donation will be spent. You can specify which deparment or program you want to fund. An unrestricted donation will be used for the general operation of the Makah Cultural and Reasearch Center.
An Endowment Campaign has been started to help ensure the financial stability for the Makah Cultural and Research Center. The MCRC has already raised over $100,000 toward our Endowment. An anonymous donor gave a majority of this money. The Endowment Campaign will be on-going until we raise over 5 million dollars.
If you would like to contribute to the MCRC's Endowment Campaign, please contact Janine Bowechop, Executive Director.
